The Hartsel Springs Ranch, Wounded Warrior USA, Community Network Foundation and the Warrior Transition Battalion Soldiers will assist in the construction of an A.D.A. streamside project (Recovery Rivers). The project will include a picnic pavilion, parking lot and A.D.A. restrooms and construction and excavation to provide access to stream-side fly-fishing for wheelchair anglers and access both sides of the stream utilizing crossover bridges.

There are volunteers and volunteer groups eager to help in this worthwhile (Recovery Rivers) project. Some pre-construction readiness will prepare for the volunteers to build and landscape the property. A couple items are peeling logs, placing them upright for the pavilion, and forming and smoothing out the concrete slab area. This will be a fun weekend in “Barn Raising fashion” with plenty of time for fishing and barbecuing as well as constructing the A.D.A. accessible trout fly-fishing facility and restroom area.

Anticipated Accomplishments; engage in individual self-confidence, teamwork, pride of ownership, making new things take place, enjoy the fulfillment of accomplishment in a short period, and experience the realization of success.

Wounded Warrior USA provides the Warrior Transition Unit (WTU) Family Fishing Days the opportunity for WTU Families to go fish on a weekend day two-times a year. The response is exciting as the June 2011 outing provided for 45 total family members of all ages. The hot coffee is ready and waiting as are the fishing rods, reels, tackle and bait. A hot lunch is provided with soft drinks and water and a whole bunch of conversation and getting to know each other. The fishing event begins at 0900 and ends at 1330. During this day a kind and generous family donated a wide screen television that was a surprise and riffled off at the end of the event. People are generous patriotic supporters and very much appreciated.

This year 2012 event will also be in June and then again in August.

All of our programs offer a unique structured environment to heal the mind and the body. The main focus of our trips are to provide a safe, fun and even challenging opportunity to learn some new outdoor skills that the soldier will take with themselves. From our classes to the outdoors we give all of the participants a chance to succeed and learn where there is no rank among any of the soldiers.
Our newest addition to Wounded Warrior USA is our Family Programs. Our focus with this program has enabled single moms and dads to enjoy half day and full day trips with their family while their spouse is serving in the military. We currently are expanding our programs to give every opportunity to all of our military soldiers and their families.

WTB Family Days
The Warrior Transition Battalion at the U. S. Army Post at Fort Carson provides family accommodations while their spouse and children are Rehabilitating. In order to be of assistance Wounded Warrior USA provides a summer time family fishing outreach event. The ideal situation is for them to relax and get their mines off their everyday medical treatments and enjoy each other as a family actually building family their family relationship. The day consists of fishing for the dads, children, and optional pampering for the moms. The WTB Soldiers and families arrive around 0800 with hot coffee and morning rolls, or they can pick up supplied fishing equipment and bait, then off to fishing. Snacks and water, coffee, and pop are plentiful through out the morning. A hot lunch served around 1130 with chips, potato salad, hamburgers, hot dogs, and deserts. Most return to fishing and just plain relax with the family. Actually many of the families meet socially for the fist time and find out they have similar family situation, children ages and can listen, talk openly with each other and at the same time make new friends. The 2011 Family Day hosted 34 attendees (everyone) from the WTB.

The Outreach Events
Wounded Warrior Fishing Programs are designed for a chance to get a away from the everyday daily grind. More than tossing a line in the water each WTB Soldier never has to ask for tips on catching fish. The use of equipment, the handling of an ice auger, electronic fish finder, setting shelters and securing them on snow packed ice. Instructions on how to ice fish for a variety of fish and which baits, jigs and lures to use at which part of the ice season. The open water trips and techniques are also plentiful for the taking. The Fishing Out Reach Program enables the Rehabilitating Soldier the opportunity to develop new fishing skills, self-confidence and build new friendships. Bottom line is to have fun, relax and enjoy the Colorado Rocky Mountain fishing experience.
One of our newest events is our ice fishing golf. This event can be set up as a team event or individual. Each soldier will make his or her way through a nine hole golf coarse with a hockey stick and puck. We have had great success with this as the soldiers are all very competitive and really have a great time with this.

Everyday a hometown young man or woman makes a decision
to become the most valuable patriot assets of
America, volunteering to join the United States Armed Forces.
For what ever their individual reasons they felt compelled
to become a member of the greatest Freedom keeping
organization in the world. These individuals realize that FREEDOM ISN’T FREE. Their enlistment obligation and duty is the renaissance of why America is the greatest county in the world.
HONOR, respect, commitment, and performance by all branches of the military acting as a universal team to accomplish a combined mission to preserve, honor and protect this Great Nation. At the time your military commitment is completed a relief of giving is reward enough and your service never to be forgotten, and your many sacrifices given. Extreme sacrifices by some that gave all and now lie in an eternal resting place. You have untold accomplishments that will forever be imbedded in the success of Individual Freedom. Your DUTY has become an element of the enormous post military organization known as the United States Veteran. Lake Ice USA affirms our commitment to providing support to our Active Duty Armed Forces and through the Wounded Warrior USA program. WE THANK YOU for your service and we especially give a special THANK YOU for the sheer pleasure of taking the Wounded Warriors fishing in the Rocky Mountain Region.
